Plantar Fasciitis [VIDEO]
What is plantar fasciitis?Although the term “fasciitis” means inflammation, like Achilles tendon problems, cells related to inflammation are normally not present. Plantar fasciitis is one of the most frequent foot-related disorders seen. The most common site of pain is at the origin of the plantar fascia at the medial plantar tubercle of the calcaneus. Pain at the midportion of the plantar fascia can happen but is less common.
Besides the plantar fascia, other structures can be involved with this syndrome. Pain may arise from one these structures: fat pad, subcalcaneal bursa, tendinous insertion of the intrinsic muscles, medial calcaneal branch of the tibial nerve, long plantar ligament, or nerve to abductor digiti minimi. True plantar fasciitis is described by progressive pain with weight bearing as well as pain with the first few steps upon standing up from a chair.
